Stewart’s Melville College is a day and boarding school for 12 to 17-year-old boys. It was established in 1972 by the amalgamation of two existing nineteenth century schools: Daniel Stewart’s College and Melville College. The College is located a short walk from Edinburgh City Centre, which gives the boys all of the advantages of studying in the Scottish capital. Stewart’s Melville is also conveniently situated for transport links which enable boys to easily travel to the school from across Scotland, the United Kingdom and overseas.
The College is a medium sized school, with a total of approximately 740 students, including 25 boarders. This means that the teaching staff are able to to support each individual child in maximising their potential. The College also has the advantage of being a a part of the Erskine Stewart’s Melville Schools group, which also includes a girl’s school and a junior school.
Entrance to Stewart’s Melville College is by assessment. Assessment days are held once each year and include tests in English, Mathematics and Verbal Reasoning. If it is not possible for the prospective student to attend the College on that day, then the assessment can be scheduled for another time.
