Rockport School is a boarding and day school located in Holywood, County Down. It offers education to students of both sexes aged 3-18 and has approximately 200 pupils with a staff ratio of 1:8. It is the only independent junior and senior school that functions along public school lines in Northern Ireland. The school attributes its continued success to its ability to respond quickly to the changes in the world of education. Their emphasis is on the pupil as an individual and developing a partnership between home and school that benefits a child’s needs.

Rockport was founded in 1906 as a preparatory school for boys and has since expanded to be a co-educational school. The founder’s vision of child-centred education has endured in the school’s ethos and this is reflected in the small class sizes and attention to individual children. The school is also a licensed sponsor of Tier 4 children and so can sponsor visas for overseas pupils for the duration of their studies.

Boarding is a cornerstone of life at Rockport School, and even day pupils are encouraged to spend occasional nights in the school to help foster a sense of community and tolerance. There are students boarding at Rockport from the local area, the rest of the United Kingdom and further afield.

If a pupil is identified as having learning difficulties then they are provided with 1-to-1 tuition with a specialist. They take the needs of individual children seriously and aim to keep lines of communication between the school, specialists and parents open at all times.

The school’s unique location on a stunning estate on the shoreline of Belfast Lough is one of its chief attractions. Along with this, it is located only 10 minutes away from Belfast City Airport and the opportunities of Northern Ireland’s capital.
