St. Mary’s is a mixed day and boarding school based in Melrose, Scotland. Founded by John Hamilton in 1895, it started out as an all-boys school. The school, sit on its original Abbey Park site, now caters for boys and girls from the age of 2. The school’s ethos continues to be based on the educational ideals of its founder, providing an education that is robust in its academic aims, rigorous in its pursuit of sporting excellence and committed to a vision of all-round education. St. Mary’s aims to provide an environment in which children feel valued and supported. Allowing them to develop their creative capacities and find their own strengths and talents. To this end the school operates a non-selective entry policy and a well-resourced learning support department.
There are currently 173 students on roll aged from 2 to 13, a staff of 10 teachers, supported by the school management team, kindergarten staff and visiting teachers provide an engaging and broad curriculum. While the school is on its original site the buildings that house much of the learning environment are purpose built and modern buildings.
St. Mary’s is situated at the foot of the Eildon Hills in the centre of Melrose. The school fosters strong connections with the local community and is easily accessible by road and rail.
