The Royal Belfast Academical Institution is a voluntary grammar school located in Belfast, Northern Ireland. It is a day school educating boys between the ages of 11 and 18 and currently has over 1000 pupils at its main site, with additional pupils at its preparatory department. It determines entry via the Association for Quality Education (AQE) Common Entrance Assessment (CEA).
The school’s ethos is to develop each pupil to his maximum potential in both his academic and personal life. There is an emphasis on physical fitness alongside a broad curriculum that seeks to challenge pupils whilst creating rounded young men. Despite the size of the school, community is established through the House system and pupils are monitored as individuals throughout their time at the school. The Royal Belfast has a proud history of equipping pupils for access to some of the UK’s most prestigious universities.
Situated in the centre of Belfast, the school is uniquely placed to enjoy the benefits of inner-city life. It has access to many facilities around the city and is exceptionally accessible by public transport of all varieties.
