Hillgrove is a mixed day school based in Bangor, Wales. Founded in 1934, it is set in two acres of natural woodland. The school caters for girls and boys from the age of 3. At 16 children go onto other local colleges to continue their education. The school aims to help each child reach their full potential, academically and in other areas. It focuses on developing individual strengths and social skills to aid the children’s further development in adulthood. The school ethos is centred on creating a community of children that can work together positively.
There are currently around 150 children on roll; the small student numbers aid in providing a high staff/pupil ratio and small class sizes. At GCSE 85% of students achieve five or more passes at A* – C grades. Children have access to a full range of core subjects including English, maths and science. The GCSE’s offered include all core subjects and fine art, English literature, humanities, modern foreign languages, ICT, PE and Welsh. The school makes the most of its woodland surroundings, and encourages outdoor education along with traditional classroom teaching and the use of new technologies.
Situated in the city of Bangor, the railway station is just five minutes away on foot and there are numerous bus services that pass the school grounds.
