Focus is a set of Christian schools, founded on Plymouth Brethren principles, this campus is based in Newtown, Wales and is a day school for boys and girls. Founded in 2001, it has had different departments on different sites until 2013, where both the primary and secondary schools settled on the current site. The school is over seen by the Cambrian Education Trust and caters for children from the age of 5; it has a grow sixth-form community. The school’s ethos centres around upholding Christian values, including purity, integrity care and compassion, respect, responsibility, commitment and godliness. Through this, children are encouraged to develop the discipline of ‘learning how to learn’. This is achieved in an environment that holds strong family values, provides care, security, safety and discipline.
There are currently 71 children on roll, including those in the sixth-form. Classes are small and there is a focus on self-directed learning throughout the school. 100% of students attained A* – C Grade in English and Maths, and achieved 5 or more GCSE A* – C grades. These results help to place Focus School Newtown in the top five schools in the UK for Value Added.
The school campus is situated in the foothills of Kerry Ridgeway, Newton, on the boarder of Wales. From this rural location, the school caters for children from Powys and Shropshire. The school is accessible by road with bus services running to Newtown bus station. Local train services also run to Newtown, Old Kerry Road railway station.
