Established in 1973 in Swansea, by a local businessman, Ffynone House is an independent school for boys and girls between the ages of 11 and 18. It is conveniently located for the city centre and other facilities in the area. ‘Ffynone’ is derived from the Welsh word for ‘spring’ and there is indeed such a water source running along the side of the school grounds.
Ffynone House School motto is “Best for your child, best from your child” and the school ethos also emphasises the importance of each individual. This translates into small class sizes, to give each pupil the highest level of support to achieve his or her potential. Ffynone House’s approach has resulted in great academic success for its pupils. In 2015, 96% of GCSE students achieved A*-C grades. The A-level percentage was similar, with 95% of students attaining A*-C. This is significantly higher than the national average for Wales in both examinations.
Entry to the senior school from Year 7 upwards is determined by interview and informal assessment plus consideration of the pupil’s existing school report. Once accepted, the pupil will be invited to attend a taster session at the school. Prospective sixth form students are offered a place on the basis of their GCSE results and an interview with the Headteacher.
