Balnacraig School in Perthshire is a co-educational residential school for pupils aged 11 to 18 years of age. The pupils who attend Balnacraig are in need of additional learning support due to emotional, social or behavioural issues. The school works hard to create a nurturing environment which is well-suited to allowing pupils to develop without additional stress or strain.
It is a small institution with only 14 pupils recorded on the last inspectorate report. This allows each student to get maximum staff support at all times.
Balnacraig has a strong emphasis on outdoor education as part of its curriculum and development programme. This goes beyond simply focusing on academic achievements, by trying to ensure that pupils leave with a strong set of life-skills as well. Due to the social and emotional needs of pupils at the school, most subjects have an element of vocational and social skills embedded into the teaching curriculum.
