How well do you cope with stress? Mind Tools' Stress Management Masterclass

Is your job or studying taking control?

Do you recognize when you are under stress?

Some years ago a colleague I worked with died as an outcome of a diabetic coma.

A girl who I was about to tutor online committed suicide, and the work in the agency  that year increased dramatically. In addition the work in my day job also increased following my colleague's death.

At my church the arrival of a new minister brought uncertainty.

The pressures were complex.

The girl had been bullied at school and was just coming out of depression.

The colleague who died smoked and drank heavily.

I was in danger of having a breakdown but I battled through.

It is only when you look back you see what you have come through.

There is a risk to your health when you subconsciously take on a false sense of guilt.

You often hear children say following the death of  their parents that they wish they had done more.

We sometimes assume responsibility when it is not ours to assume.

We take on the burden which is not ours to take on.

Under stress we can make wrong decisions.

It could lead to a rail accident, a plane crash, suicide or  a mental breakdown.

When someone dies there is often a sense of  losing control.

No longer can you resolve problems with that person and part of  grief  is a feeling of  helplessness.

In such a state we become vulnerable.

It could mean we spend spend spend to fill the gap.

We find ourselves doing things we later regret.

It is good to have friends around to help you through such a crisis.

Have you stopped to assess what pressures you are under?

Are you really in touch with you emotions?

Are you the victim of bullying?

Have you taken on too much work?

Do you get irritable, tense and agitated?

How do you cope with change?
