Worldwide Morality As a Christian I believe in the value of people of whatever
age or culture. The old lady living alone in a small flat or a mother trying to bring up a
child by herself may find themselves victims of abuse. We all have dignity and rights. I recall one Friday late afternoon in North Lambeth when I
was an Education Welfare Officer. A mother came in to the office stating she
had problems paying her electricity bill. I phoned Social Services and was not
given much help at that time. The mother then burst into tears saying that her
boyfriend had been round and had been aggressive. She in turn had taken it out
on her son who she loved. I phoned Social Services again and that night a
Place of Safety Order was granted. What things drive us over the edge, and how can we stop? How
can we recognize the symptoms? Sometimes it is a result of emotional pressure
building up inside us and perhaps blood pressure. It maybe we are going through
a difficult time in a relationship. Perhaps we are aware we are getting older. Suddenly we feel the need to
let the emotion out, but how can we control it? Where can we look for help? You may be able to take your feet out of the quicksand when
the tide is out, but if you stay there too long you get stuck. If you feel that
you are getting sucked in to something you will regret then get out now and walk
on solid ground. There are many agencies that can help you so seek advice before
it is too late. We hear of old people being attacked and children being
abused. How can we make a change to our world? We need to give people a sense of
value. For me I believe that God accepts people as they are, so we should accept
other people as they are. It does not mean that we have to like everybody but we
have to love them. It could be that our acceptance and love could change their
lives. Do
child abusers and violent criminals
have no sense of self worth? Do they find it almost impossible to form stable
relationships? Do they prefer to dominate and control rather than relate and grow? Does the
husband who hits his wife and children demonstrate that he cannot or
will not find a better way to relate to them? Does the person who abuses children
reflects a belief that he or she cannot relate to people of their own age?. Is there a more disturbing trend is to seek out the
violent abuse of children? What leads to this perverted desire? Does it again
reflect a misplaced view of sex and relationships? How can we begin to remedy the situation? I have listed some sites below that may be of value. Repressed Anger
