Education

( Edited by Halsey, Lauder, Brown and Amy Stuart Wells)

Education: Culture, Economy, and Society is a book for everyone concerned with the social study of education: students studying the sociology of education, foundations of education, educational policy, and other related courses. It aims to establish the social study of education at the centre stage of political and sociological debate about post-industrial societies. In examining major changes which have taken place in the late twentieth century, it gives students a comprehensive introduction to both the nature of these changes and to their interpretation in relation to long-standing debates within education, sociology, and cultural studies. The extensive editorial introduction outlines the major theoretical approaches within the sociology of education, assesses their contribution to an adequate understanding of the changing educational context, and sets out the key issues and areas for future research. The 52 papers in this wide-ranging thematic reader bring together the most powerful work in education into an international dialogue which is sure to become a classic text. Swimming Teaching and Coaching: Level 1

A reader from University of Bradford, England
I found this book most helpful when I was studying for my ASA Swimming Teachers qualification. The book contains simple diagrams and explainations of each stroke and discipline in swimming. It also gives ideas for trainning schedules which for the learning teacher is most valuable.

However, any person that does have an interest in swimming will find that this book is very informative and a very easy read.

Overall, a very well structured book for the learning of the disciplines within swimming.

Approaches to Second Language Acquisition

Synopsis
This book examines five central issues of second language acquisition: transfer, staged development, cross-learner systematicity, incompleteness and variability. It is argued that the first four of the five central issues receive a more satisfactory account than has been previously provided through an approach based on universal grammar. The fifth - variability - requires an account based on requirements of language use and language processing.
